Cervical Stenosis: Non-Surgical Management in Palm Beach
Cervical stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal or nerve exit foramina in the neck, which can compress the spinal cord or nerve roots. It is most commonly caused by age-related degenerative changes and can produce symptoms ranging from neck pain and arm tingling to, in severe cases, balance and coordination problems.
Dr. Ghattas’s neurological background makes him particularly well-suited to evaluate the full picture of cervical stenosis, including the critical assessment of whether non-surgical management is safe and appropriate for your specific degree of narrowing. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Ghattas today.
What Is Cervical Stenosis?
Narrowing of the cervical canal can compress either the spinal cord (cervical myelopathy) or individual nerve roots (cervical radiculopathy), or both simultaneously. The distinction matters enormously for treatment planning: myelopathy with cord compression typically requires surgical evaluation, while foraminal stenosis with nerve root compression may be managed with targeted interventions.
Signs and Symptoms
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Arm pain, numbness, or weakness (radiculopathy)
- In myelopathy: hand clumsiness, difficulty with fine motor tasks
- Balance and gait disturbances in more severe cases
- Symptoms that may worsen with neck extension
Common Causes and Risk Factors
- Age-related disc degeneration and osteophyte (bone spur) formation
- Thickening of the posterior longitudinal ligament
- Facet joint arthritic changes contributing to foraminal narrowing
- Congenitally narrow spinal canal (predisposing to earlier symptoms)
- Prior cervical injury or surgery
How It Is Diagnosed
MRI is the primary imaging tool for evaluating the degree of cervical stenosis and its impact on the spinal cord and nerve roots. Dr. Ghattas reviews your imaging with particular attention to whether cord signal changes are present, as this finding significantly impacts treatment direction.
Neurological examination and, when needed, electrodiagnostic testing help establish the functional severity of nerve and cord involvement.
Conventional Treatment Options
- Physical therapy for cervical stabilization and posture
- Anti-inflammatory and nerve pain medications
- Cervical epidural steroid injections for nerve root inflammation management
- Surgical decompression (laminoplasty, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion): The primary treatment for
- myelopathy or severe radiculopathy not responding to conservative care
The Palm Beach Regenerative Approach
For patients with cervical foraminal stenosis and nerve root irritation, without evidence of significant cord compression, targeted orthobiologic injection to the cervical nerve root environment and facet joints may help manage the inflammatory component of the condition.
Dr. Ghattas is explicit about the limitations: these treatments do not widen the spinal canal. For patients with myelopathy or progressive neurological deficits, surgical consultation is the appropriate path and Dr. Ghattas will facilitate that referral directly.
For appropriately selected patients, orthobiologic treatment represents a way to manage symptoms and potentially delay surgical intervention, with honest monitoring of neurological status.
The BioMod Advantage: At Palm Beach Regenerative, treatment does not end with a single injection. Through our BioMod Lab, Dr. Ghattas may combine your orthobiologic procedure with MLS Robotic Laser Therapy to reduce inflammation and support tissue recovery, alongside customized Xymogen supplement protocols designed to optimize your body’s healing environment. This integrated, concierge approach is what sets Palm Beach Regenerative apart from a standard injection clinic.
Like all medical procedures, interventional orthobiologics have potential risks and benefits. Results vary by individual. Not all patients are candidates. Dr. Ghattas will discuss your specific situation, realistic expectations, and all treatment options, including when surgery or other interventions may be more appropriate.
Cervical stenosis with evidence of spinal cord compression (myelopathy) requires neurological and surgical evaluation as a priority. Interventional orthobiologics are not appropriate for patients with progressive neurological deficits from cord compression. Dr. Ghattas will not recommend non-surgical treatment when surgery is clearly the safer option.

“Went to Dr. Ghattas for chronic knee and neck issue. I’ve already had multiple procedures done on my neck and multiple epidurals with minimal success. My knee I was told needed surgery to fix. I already had surgery in the past with minimal difference. I ended up getting stem cells in my knee and neck and could t be happier with the outcome. Anyone considering surgery I recommend checking out Regenex first. Next I’m doing the ganglion block and look forward to the results.”Logan H
